My Story

My name is Meghan.  I am excited to share my love of handmade soaps with you.  Years ago, friends of ours gave us handmade soap as a gift.  After experiencing handmade soap, I was determined to learn how to make it.  What a relief to have an alternative to the harsh, commercially made soaps that my skin was screaming at me for using.   In 2001, after lots of research and studying, I got the nerve to give making soap a try.  It was invigorating to be able to create safe, non-toxic products for myself, family and friends to use.

In 2012, my daughter was born, and I was looking to do something that would allow me to work from home. In 2013, I started selling my soap at farmer's markets and in local retail locations.  While trying to come up with a business name, we stumbled upon a book that someone was getting rid of called Maine Lingo, by John Gould.  After looking through the book, it did not take long for the Billdad to become the topic of many conversations.  We decided it was comical and memorable and Billdad Bath was born.  (You can read our description of the mythical creature in the slide show).

My inspiration for Billdad Bath soap comes from  living in the High Peaks Region of Maine.  The area has numerous outdoor activities to enjoy, such as skiing, hiking, biking, swimming, fishing and boating.  People are drawn to the area all seasons. Many of the soaps are named after specific local places or references the many activities in some way.  As many people often ask, some soap names are just whatever pops into my head and gives me a chuckle.

Billdad Bath sells soap at the local Farmer's Market, and in local retail locations such as Mo's Variety and Ecopelogican, both in Rangeley, Maine.  We also have products in The Coplin Co-op in Stratton, Maine.

Billdad Bath also offers custom orders for showers, weddings or special functions.  My husband, Jeff assists me in offering customized labels.  We work closely with our clients to create a design that will make that special event personal and memorable. * Please note that custom orders need at least 3 months in advance of the event due to cure time for soap as well as time to get a design you are pleased with.
